Why smcp? #02

Why choose smcp for: Psychotherapy, Counselling or fully accredited Training?

Psychotherapy and Counselling

smcp was established in 1991 and is a centre of excellence in the delivery of psychotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy training. It is a purpose built modern psychotherapy and training centre and is maintained to a high standard at all times.

smcp is based on a quiet un-adopted lane in the centre of Heaton Moor village which is a leafy suburb of South Manchester. It has many wine bars, cafes and shops - it is a friendly and attractive place.

smcp is situated within walking distance of Heaton Chapel Railway station and very close to all bus routes from Stockport and Manchester. There is plenty of parking locally.

smcp recognises beyond all else the centrality of human relationships and you will be treated professionally at all times: with care, respect, compassion and honesty. You will not be expected to come weekly at a particular time and on a particular day. You decide, in consultation with your therapist, the frequency you would like to attend.

smcp has around eighteen practitioners (both female and male) who offer psychotherapy and or counselling. Every practitioner has undergone a rigorous 'vetting' process to meet with the high standards of practice at smcp. Every practitioner has undergone a minimum of eight years of professional training and every practitioner is registered with a professional psychotherapy or counselling organisation such as UKCP / BACP or BPS.

Most practitioners offer concessionary rates.

There are several modalities practised at smcp which gives you flexibility to choose the right sort of psychotherapy or counselling approach e.g. Transactional Analysis / Gestalt / CBT / Person Centered etc. If you have a preference please say.

smcp is a purpose built psychotherapy and training centre owned by Carol Lucas and is a modern, clean, comfortable and professional environment which is maintained to a high standard. All the services offered at smcp are not dependent on renting rooms from other organisations.

smcp is maintained on a daily basis and offers a warm and respectful welcome to everyone who uses the services from 9.00am to 9.30pm every day of the week.

All enquiries are by email (or phone) and you will have a response within a few hours (and well within 24 hours). You may ask Carol Lucas any questions and, if you want, she will help you select a therapist who has availability, can meet with you at a time that is convenient and is of the gender you would prefer.

If you want she will ask the therapist to contact you (by email or phone) so that you can ask any questions before deciding to make an appointment. You can take as long as you want to think about the information before deciding what you want to do.

Many practitioners have specialist areas of clinical practice such as working with couples or children or working with particular conditions.

All practitioners work to codes of ethics and professional practice. Confidentiality will be maintained at all times apart from exceptional circumstances. All practitioners practise within the limits of their expertise.

Training at smcp

smcp is a UKATA registered Training Establishment and delivers training leading to UKCP and or BACP registration.

smcp has been involved in the delivery of psychotherapy training since 1996 and offers fully accredited, very flexible, weekend training that is very fairly priced.

A few Concessionary places are available for all courses delivered at smcp.

All aspects of the accredited training take place at smcp - if you are wanting to achieve the CTA award, after you have met all the criteria, you will select your own supervisor - this may be external to smcp. You will not be asked to attend different venues or peoples' homes.

All enquiries are by email and you will have a response within a few hours and certainly no more than 24 hours.

In 2010 smcp doubled in size to include ground floor training and psychotherapy rooms.
